Ceramic jug - Ceramic pyxis with rounded base, two handles at the shoulder and everted rim; checkered brown and black design; 10.6 x 8.2 cm; Dr. Amnon Refael Collection, Tel Aviv, ca. 800-586, Iron Age IIC.  This vessel is particularly interesting as it is a form associated with the Aegean region. When the Sea Peoples made their way across the Eastern mediterranean landing on the Southern Levantine littoral they brought elements of their material culture with them, among them this class of vessel, the pyxis, which spawned local imitations, and evolved into the English word, “box”.
