Two terracotta lamps - Lot of two terracotta lamps: a. round lamp with large filling hole surrounded by dots, Land of Israel ca. 3rd cent. ce. b. piriform lamp with large filling hole; linear decoration around the filling hole; two “menorah derived motifs” adjacent to nozzle, Samaritan, Holy Land ca. 5th-6th cent ce. Mordechai Rozbruch Collection, Revadim. The Samaritans were particularly punctilious in observing certain halichot. Since one of them forbade kindling a seven branched menorah after the destruction of the Temple, they followed that to such a degree that in many instances they avoided depicting a seven branched menorah, instead depicting a close copy.
