Each on a stylized square base, chased with organic designs. The stem is baluster shaped and further embossed with floral designs. Fitted with skirted wax catchers. The original bobeches are present. Fully restored. Starting in 1441 the Grand Duke of Lithuania, granted trading privileges to Minsk, which meant Jewish people could lease custom duties. In 1648 Jews were expelled during the Khmelnytsky Uprising, allowing them to return in 1658. In the mid 18th century, Minsk became widely recognised as a centre for Jewish education. By WWI there were 67,000 Jews living in Minsk. 14” tall x 5. 5” wide base.
