Bidspirit auction | Lot of early Baltic postage
Lot of early Baltic postage stamps, mostly used with some mint. Latvia (Latvija): includes the 1919 ”Liberating Warrior” pictorials (10k and 1 rub), the arms/star-and-sun definitive series in several denominations and colors, and building/architecture designs (20/35 santimu). Note: early Latvia includes the well-known issues printed on the backs of German banknotes and military maps — worth checking the paper. Lithuania (Lietuva) & Central Lithuania (Litwa Środkowa / Środkowa Litwa): a group of early 1919–1922 issues including imperforate coat-of-arms and knight (”Vytis”) designs, surcharges, and the Central Lithuania eagle/arms series, plus a couple of ”Śląsk” overprints. Condition: used/mixed, as typical for the period; sound overall. A solid intermediate group of scarce and specialized Baltic material — many of these classic issues carry real catalogue value and reward careful identification.
