”A diskos with the image of the Mother of God with a Virgin.” The unknown master, Russia, the end of the 17th century. Silver, forging, engraving, ink, polishing, fire gilding. Diameter 20.7 cm, weight 230 grams. - The diskos is made using forging; decorated with floral ornaments, inscriptions and an image of the Mother of God with a baby. The floral ornaments, inscriptions and images of saints are engraved. The background between the floral ornament and the background around the image of the Mother of God is filled with black. The product is fragmentarily polished. The diskos is gilded using fire gilding. The diskos (from Greek, δίσκος dish, plate, disc) is a small dish on a stand, on which the holy Lamb and the particles of prosphora taken out on the proskomedia rely during the liturgy. In a spiritual sense, it marks both the manger in which Jesus Christ was laid at birth, and the cave coffin in which His body was laid after being taken down from the Cross. Moreover, the diskos, together with the particles taken out of the prosphora on the proskomedia, symbolizes the Church. The stylistic, tracological and technological studies carried out allow us to assert that the discos was made at the end of the 17th century, in Russia. The product has a French stamp for imported silver products made of 800 samples, containing an image of an ant.
