Unknown artist, *Lady in a Dark Dress*, 1830s, Russian Empire. Paper, watercolor, pencil. 27 × 21 cm (sight size). On the reverse: inscription “Ludwika z Zezierikul Yaezeska.” - A small-scale portrait of a young woman in a dark dress is a characteristic example of salon or album graphics from the period of late Empire to early Romanticism. The figure is shown in an interior: the sitter is seated in an armchair, with drapery behind her, creating a theatrical, almost “ceremonial” accent despite the modest format. The face and hairstyle are rendered with delicacy and precision, while the main mass of the costume is treated in broad, expressive areas of tone — a manner typical of portrait watercolors of the 1830s. The work is executed on paper in a mixed technique: watercolor with pencil underdrawing. On the reverse there is an authorial/ownership inscription: “Ludwika z Zezierikul Yaezeska” (reading according to the presented inscription). Provenance: Russian Empire, 1830s.
