Sergey ”Goldfish” barrel, collage, 9x14 cm. I-I quarter of the twentieth century. - Sergey Bochkov is a St. Petersburg artist and journalist, educated and worked as a geologist and geodesist, and also collaborated with publications as a correspondent, artist and decorator. Sergei Boch's collage ”Goldfish” is an elegant chamber work based on the expressiveness of silhouette and contrast of textures. The plot, referring to a well-known fairy-tale motif, has been transformed by the artist into a sign: the laconic shapes and rhythm of the cut elements create the feeling of a theatrical stage, where it is not the details that matter, but the mood — light irony, play and mystery. The collage technique allows the author to speak ”briefly and precisely”: by superimposing and matching planes, he achieves the integrity of the image and decorative clarity. The small format enhances the effect of a found, almost written impression — like a visual note in which a fairy tale sounds modern and poignant.
