There is a bottle of varnish on the floor, a detail that enhances everyday specifics and at the same time works as a comic accent. The work is based on the contrast of characters and plastics: the elastic, nervous line of the pen and sharp silhouettes create a sense of movement and intense dialogue of gestures, while light watercolor pads enliven the drawing, setting the tone and atmosphere. He did not receive a systematic art education. He studied in Leningrad with N.I. Kravchenko and A.A. Radakov (1924-1928). Since 1926, as a cartoonist, he collaborated in the newspapers Leningradskaya Pravda, Evening Leningrad, Neva, Ogonek, and Funny Pictures magazines. Since 1939, he has been an artist of the Combat Pencil association. In 1945-1946, as a corresponding artist, he attended the Nuremberg trials.
