In 1842, he was working on commissions for the Prussian king, for whom he painted the Knights' Hall of the Royal Palace in Berlin. ”Presumably, the recording of these three Rhenish palaces of the King was also a commissioned work ”by order of the Most High” (Winfried Baer, p.186).
