Sculptor, porcelain modeller, painter, draughtsman, poster artist and etcher. From 1905 to 1912, he was a trainee under Prof. Heinrich von Zügel at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich. Already employed as a sculptor at the Royal Porcelain Manufactory Nymphenburg from 1905 to 1918. From 1919 to 1934, Kärner worked as a freelance sculptor for the porcelain factory Philipp Rosenthal & Co. AG, Selb and the Rosenthal porcelain factory Bahnhof-Selb. From 1935 to 1944/45, Th. Kärner was the artistic director of the Allach porcelain factory. Even at the beginning of his career, the faithful depiction of animals in posture and movement was appreciated.
