Bashlakov came to Germany through the turmoil of war. He studied from 1954 to 1959 at the Werkkunstschule Hannover under Gerhard Wendland. In 1967/68 he was awarded the Villa Massimo Prize in Rome. This watercolor is the artist's last completed work.
