Inscribed: KH-KK-70. dated and signed on the label: Bonato, Oct. (19)73. After training as a glass painter, Bonato studied mural painting at the Cologne Werkschulen from 1956 - 1961. He lived in the USA for several years and co-founded the Cologne artists' group ”K-66” in 1966. Bonato's works often have a socially critical background. In 1987, he received a lectureship in the Department of Art and Design at the University of Wuppertal. In 1993, he was awarded the August Macke Prize in Bonn.
