Large Jain Altar of Tirthankara Rishabhanatha / Mahavira with Silver Inlays - Large Jain Altar of Tirthankara Rishabhanatha / Mahavira with Silver Inlays India, probably 13th century, 1241. Copper alloys (brass / bronze), silver, West India. Weight: 1000 g. H. approx. 22 cm. Condition: Traces of age and use, with some abrasions. - Provenance: From a private collection in North Germany. Depiction: Rishabhanatha / Mahavira in meditative posture (Padmasana) on a lion-supported throne (Simhasana). Some Tirthankaras with shrivatsa in silver on the chest. Ajitanatha has silver eyes. The Jina is identified by the elephant, the distinguishing mark (cihna) of the fifth Tirthankara. It is surrounded by axially symmetrical pairs of Jinas and yak-tail whisk bearers. Inscription on the back, dated Samvat 1298, dating according to the Vikram Samvat calendar, the year 1298 Vikram Samvat corresponds to the year 1241 AD in the Gregorian calendar.
