A rare bronze figure of Manjushri Namasangiti - A rare bronze figure of Manjushri Namasangiti Himalayan Region / Nepal, probably 18th century. Bronze, brown patinated. H. 18 cm. Manjushri Namasangiti with twelve arms in a seated position. Signs of age and use. The figure sits with crossed legs on a lotus plinth. It has six pairs of arms representing the five cosmic Buddhas and Vajrasattva. The upper hands are above the head, symbolizing Mount Meru and its relationship to Vajrasattva. The next two pairs of hands are in Vitarka Mudra at shoulder height. The main hands are open-palmed in front of his heart, symbolizing Vairocana. The next hands below make the gesture of sprinkling nectar on Shakyamuni's head in the bowl below. The lower hands are held in the meditation gesture to support the bowl.
