Condition: Signs of age. Sakyamuni, also known as Siddhartha Gautama, is the historical Buddha and founder of Buddhism, who lived in India around the 5th to 6th century BC. His teachings form the basis of the three major Buddhist traditions: Theravada, Mahayana, and Vajrayana. In art, he is often depicted in meditative postures, accompanied by symbolic hand gestures, known as Mudras. Among the best known are the Bhumisparsha Mudra, the earth-touching gesture, and the Dharmachakra Mudra, the gesture of teaching.
