Old Standing Ram From India - Old standing ram from India India, North Karnataka / Maharashtra, 19th century. Brass, dimensions: 14 x 6 x 11 cm. The standing ram shows signs of age. A certificate is available. This is a Deccan brass casting. The ram is adorned with a neck ornament, possibly representing a garland of bells. It stands on a rectangular, stepped brass stand. In the center of the stand there is a net-shaped hole. The ram may have been placed on a stand so that worshippers could see it. In Hindu mythology, the ram is the vehicle (Vahana) of Agni, the god of fire. Such pieces were often kept in the prayer room. The ram played a major role as a religious symbol in many cultures and was part of the core of the mythology of Pharaonic Egypt.
