Otto Eglau - Otto Eglau 1917 Berlin - 1988 Kampen - ”Sylt” (by the sea) - (1967) Oil/canvas. 100 x 90 cm. 105 x 94 cm (dimensions with frame). Signed and dated lower left: Eglau (19)67. Inscribed on the reverse of the stretcher and labelled on a sticker. Frame (shadow gap). Isolated scratches with slight loss of paint. - Lit.: Vollmer 5, p. 450. Eglau studied at the Berlin University of the Arts, among others, under Max Kaus. At the TU Berlin, Eglau held a professorship for free painting and drawing. In 1957 he received the prize of the 1st Exposition Biennale Internationale De Gravure à Tokyo. He undertook numerous study trips worldwide but maintained permanent studios in Berlin and on Sylt.
