Condition: Signs of age, slightly browned, upper left corner slightly rubbed. Ryusai Shigeharu (1802-1853) was a significant Japanese woodblock artist of the Ukiyo-e tradition. He was primarily active in Osaka and was a student of Utagawa Kunihiro and Yanagawa Shigenobu. His works focused on actor portraits (yakusha-e), theater posters, and book illustrations. His series ''24 Examples of Filial Piety'' (Nijushido no uchi) is particularly well-known. Shigeharu's style is characterized by vibrant colors, expressive faces, and a strong connection to the world of Kabuki theater.
