Green Hulu Vase - Green Hulu Vase China, late 19th century. Porcelain, green painted, glazed. Base and interior are light gray glazed. Underglaze with a fine crackle pattern. H. 16 cm, D. of mouth: 1.5 cm. Condition: There is a small chip of about 3 mm on the foot ring. Húlu, the gourd-shaped vessel form, has a special symbolic meaning. It is often associated with good fortune, prosperity, protection, and health. Traditionally, it was believed that the gourd shape wards off evil spirits and attracts positive energy. Another reason lies in the sound of the word ”húlu”, which sounds similar to ”fúlù” - a term meaning ”good fortune and wealth”.
