Famille-Verte Húlu Vase with Ming Mark - Famille-Verte Húlu Vase with Ming Mark China, probably 20th century. Porcelain, glazed. Red and turquoise painting. H. 20 cm. On the bottom, in two blue rings, with underglaze blue marks: ”Da Ming Jiajing Nianzhi” (Made during the Jiajing period of the Great Ming Dynasty). Sticker on the bottom. Condition: Loss of paint. No chips / damage. Húlu, the gourd-shaped vessel form, has a special symbolic meaning. It is often associated with luck, prosperity, protection, and health. Traditionally, it was believed that the gourd shape wards off evil spirits and attracts positive energy. Another reason lies in the sound of the word ”húlu,” which sounds similar to ”fúlù” – a term meaning ”happiness and wealth.” Therefore, this form is frequently used in artworks, jewelry, and decorations.
