Bronze Figure of a Laughing Buddha on a Dragon Pedestal - Bronze figure of a laughing Buddha on a dragon pedestal. China, probably late Qing Dynasty or later. Bronze, weight: approx. 2.87 kg. H. 30 cm. Condition: Signs of age and wear. The bottom is partly filled with earth. Standing laughing Buddha, holding a gold coin bag in one hand while gold coins fall to the ground. The pedestal shows two dragons chasing a fireball. The Laughing Buddha is a cheerful, wandering monk from 10th-century China. He is associated with happiness, abundance, and the future Buddha Maitreya. His round belly and serene smile symbolize contentment and generosity.
