The versatile artist published his first poems at 17, and his first volume of poetry, Lampe d'Aladin, at 19. In the early 1930s, Cocteau directed his first film ”Le Sang d'un poète”. Over time, he worked as a director, screenwriter, and actor in several films. In 1954, he became a member of the «Academy of Arts» in France and Belgium. More than 1100 works by the artist are in the museum dedicated to him in Menton. In 1964, his works were also shown at Documenta III in Kassel.
