Pair of Famille Rose Hat Stands (Mào Tong) - Pair of Famille Rose Hat Stands (Mào Tong) China, probably Republican period, ca. 1912-1930. Porcelain, glazed, polychrome painted. H. 28.1 cm, D. 12 cm. Depiction of a Fu dog mother with playing Fu dog pups and a fortune ball. Underglaze red stamp on the base: Tongzhi Nianzhi (Made during the Tongzhi reign). Good condition, base slightly rubbed. Beautiful cylindrical hat stands, originally used for storing hats, fans, scrolls, or brush holders. During the Republican period, such pieces increasingly became decorative household objects. They are typical export and interior decorations of the early Republican period and usually feature fine enamel painting and a bright, pastel color palette.
