Two Silver-plated Boxes with Porcelain Plaques - Two silver-plated boxes with porcelain plaques China, probably 19th-20th century. Copper, silver-plated; with curved porcelain plaques, polychrome painted. Dimensions: 14 × 10 × 4.5 cm and 13 × 9 × 4.5 cm. Unsigned. One box in an isosceles trapezoidal shape. Condition: Signs of age and use, loss of color. A crack of approx. 2.5 cm on one lid (restored). These boxes were used in China - especially from the late Qing Dynasty until the early 20th century. These objects combine two traditions: Chinese porcelain art and Western-style metalwork (which was often introduced through trade and foreign influences). They were predominantly designed as food containers, for tea supplies, as cosmetic or toiletry boxes, and as luxury gifts.
