Standing Bronze Buddha Dipankara on Lotus Pedestal - Standing Bronze Buddha Dipankara on Lotus Pedestal Nepal / Tibet, probably 18th/19th century. Bronze, patinated. H. 25 cm. Condition: Clearly visible signs of age. Dipankara stands on a lotus pedestal. The right hand is held in Abhaya Mudra, which symbolizes protection, reassurance, and peace; symbols are on the palm. The left hand shows the Varada Mudra, the sign for generosity, compassion, and the granting of wishes. This palm also bears symbols. Buddha Dipankara is a Buddha from the past, known for having predicted that the ascetic Sumedha would one day become Buddha Gautama. He is often depicted in a standing posture, a pose that reflects his role as a Buddha of a distant past who bestows blessings and prophecies.
