Color woodblock print on Washi (Japanese paper). Signed and with red artist's seal lower left. Artist: Ichiryusai Utagawa Toyomaru. Sheet dimensions: approx. 37 × 12.8 cm. The sheet is loose. Condition: Slightly browned, rubbed. Ichiryusai Utagawa Toyomaru (active approx. 1840-1850) was a lesser-known artist of the Utagawa school, whose finely composed Ukiyo-e prints are notable for their clear lines and a lively sense of dramatic scenes. Although only a few prints by him have survived, they reflect the colorful theater culture of the late Edo period and enrich the diversity of the Utagawa tradition.
