Mizuno Toshikata (1866-1908) was a Meiji-era artist known for color woodcuts and depictions of beautiful women. The Sanjuroku Kasen series was created between 1891-1893 and features women from various historical periods. It combines traditional ideals of beauty with historically accurate clothing and everyday life depictions. The title refers to the classic ”36 Immortal Poets, ” but replaces them with idealized female figures.
