Passe-partout. Das Blatt liegt lose. Baselitz initially completed his art studies in East Berlin but was expelled from the university in 1956. From 1958, he lived and studied in West Berlin. In 1961, he published the 1st Pandemonic Manifesto, in which he criticized the prevailing art concept. In 1963, two of his paintings were confiscated due to immorality. In 1969, the first paintings with an inverted motif were created, which made Baselitz known worldwide and significantly shaped painting after 1960. In 2004, Baselitz was honored with the Praemium Imperiale of the Japan Art Association. His works are represented in numerous international museums and collections.
