He works with monuments, buildings, wraps coastlines and entire islands. He studied at the Academy of Arts in Sofia from 1953-56. In 1957, the first packages and ”Wrapped Objects” were created in Paris. Since 1961, Christo has been realizing projects together with the artist Jeanne-Claude, his later wife. Probably the most famous project in Germany is the wrapping of the Reichstag, which took place from June 23 - July 8, 1995. Here Christo and Jeanne-Claude used 100,000 sqm of fabric, 15,600 m of rope and 200 tons of steel. In 2001, a retrospective followed in the Martin Gropius Bau in Berlin. They last received worldwide attention in 2005 with the project ”The Gates” in Central Park, New York. They are currently working on the wrapping of the Arkansas River, Colorado, USA.
