Chinese Doucai plate, the interior painted with a five-clawed dragon chasing a flaming pearl motif amidst flames, while two more dragons on the exterior similarly pursue the pearl. The Doucai dragon plate from the Yongzheng period is a particularly finely executed Qing Dynasty porcelain, valued for its precision, luminosity, and imperial symbolism. Under Emperor Yongzheng (1723-1735), some of the most technically sophisticated pieces were created in Jingdezhen, with Doucai - 'contrasting colors' - being among the most coveted techniques. Typical is the five-clawed imperial dragon, chasing a flaming pearl, the symbol of cosmic power and legitimate rule. Plates of this type from the Yongzheng period are extremely rare.
