Yaozhou in Shaanxi province was for centuries an important center of ceramic production. Since the Tang era, various wares were produced there, but from the Five Dynasties period onwards, the kilns specialized in green-glazed stoneware. In the Northern Song Dynasty, Yaozhou reached its peak and became the leading manufacturer of celadon in China, with its own style suitable for mass production. In addition to large quantities of bowls and plates with carved or relief decorations, rarer vessel forms such as incense burners, which received special care, were also created.
