Bidspirit auction | George Condo (b. 1957) -

George Condo (b. 1957) - Untitled, 2007 Drawing of a Smiling Woman - A bold charcoal drawing depicting a fantastical female bust with the artist’s signature fractured physiognomy, executed with sweeping black strokes and subtle shading. The work exemplifies Condo’s “Artificial Realism, ” fusing Old Master draftsmanship with contemporary wit. Professionally presented in a black frame with archival mat. Charcoal and pencil on paper, 41 × 30 cm / 16 x 12.5”  (sheet); framed 65 × 52.5 cm / 25.5” x 20.5”. Signed and dated upper left “Condo 07.”  A striking example of Condo’s celebrated works on paper from the 2000s, demonstrating the psychological intensity and hybrid figuration that define his practice. Provenance: Pietro Mancini, Rome (invoice dated 25 March 2012) - acquired by a Montreal collector shortly thereafter and held in that collection to the present. Note: This drawing is not listed in any published catalogue raisonne of George Condo’s oeuvre (cataloguing of works on paper is ongoing). A copy of the 2012 invoice accompanies the lot.
