Bidspirit auction | Inuit Owl Sculpture in Two

Inuit Owl Sculpture in Two Parts, Fossilized Whalebone - A distinctive Inuit carving of an owl, executed in two separate pieces that interlock to form the figure and its base. The work is crafted from porous fossilized whalebone, with inset circular eyes giving the bird a striking presence. The material’s natural texture is cleverly used to enhance the plumage effect, typical of Inuit sculptors’ sensitivity to medium. THIS ITEM CANNOT BE EXPORTED FROM CANADA. Height: approx. 7.75 inches assembled. Condition: Good; natural surface pitting and wear consistent with the medium and age; base and body designed to slot together. Provenance: Private collection, Canada.
