James Archibald Houston (1921-2005), Inuit Woman, 1954, ink on paper, signed - A finely detailed pen-and-ink portrait of an Inuit woman, rendered with Houston’s characteristic sensitivity to northern life and culture. Dated 1954, this drawing comes from the formative period of Houston’s direct engagement with Inuit communities in the Canadian Arctic, shortly after he began championing Inuit art to southern audiences.
