Alashua Aningmiuq (1914–1972) Kikavik, ca. 1969, Ink on paper - A superb original ink drawing depicting a stylized three-headed bird with scale-pattern plumage. This fantastical composition—balanced, symmetrical, and meticulously outlined—exemplifies Aningmiuq’s contribution to the formative period of Cape Dorset graphic art. His work often combines naturalistic observation of Arctic fauna with imaginative transformation, bridging mythic and modern visual language. Excellent overall, with very slight handling creases along the margin. Alashua Aningmiuq was among the early generation of Cape Dorset artists whose drawings inspired the celebrated print program of the 1960s. His distinctive linear style and inventiveness are well documented in early West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative archives.
