Sarain Stump (1945-1974) Four Prints Folio: Ghost Dance, Spirit Talk, Bringing Back a Lost Soul, Only Buffaloes Can Call Buffaloes (1972) - Complete folio of four silkscreen prints by Plains Cree-Shoeshone artist Sarain Stump (1945-1974), each signed and dated in pencil lower right, and numbered 28/150. Published by People’s Art, Ottawa in 1972. Original printed folio cover and title/biographical sheet included. This rare folio edition represents one of the few cohesive suites produced during Sarain Stump’s short but influential career. A Cree-Shoeshone artist, writer, and educator, Stump’s works interweave Plains mythology with a modern graphic sensibility, confronting questions of cultural survival, spirituality, and identity. Published just two years before his untimely death in 1974, these signed folios have become cornerstones in the canon of contemporary Indigenous art in Canada. Examples are held in the permanent collections of the Canadian Museum of History and other institutional archives. Print titles: Ghost Dance; Spirit Talk; Bringing Back a Lost Soul; Only Buffaloes Can Call Buffaloes. Sheet dimensions: approx. 15.5 x 13.75 in. (39.5 x 35 cm) each. Provenance: From the collection of Ene Schoeler (Montreal). Acquired directly through People’s Art, Ottawa, early 1970s.
