Bidspirit auction | Sorel Etrog (1933-2014), Untitled Embossed

Sorel Etrog (1933-2014), Untitled Embossed Print, 1966 - A rare embossed print by Romanian-Canadian modernist sculptor and printmaker Sorel Etrog, inscribed in pencil “To Paul and Ene, Ottawa Sept. ’66”. The abstract interlacing forms reflect Etrog’s characteristic exploration of tension, structure, and organic geometry, closely related to his sculptural practice of the 1960s. Executed in blind embossing on cream wove paper, this work demonstrates the artist’s mastery of minimalist relief and texture. Etrog was one of Canada’s most important postwar artists, bridging European modernism with North American abstraction. This personalized gift, dedicated to Ene Schoeler, reflects a direct connection between the artist and the collector, enhancing its historical and personal significance. Dimensions: 12.5 x 16 in (31.7 x 40.6 cm). Edition: Unique inscribed proof. Condition: Very good, light surface soiling and handling consistent with age.
