This hand-crafted model canoe is an Eastern Woodlands birch bark vessel, consistent with Penobscot construction techniques. The hull is formed from birch bark sheets with seams sealed using a dark resin or pitch. The interior contains a wooden frame with multiple ribs and gunwales, including five wooden thwarts. The gunwales are finished with decorative lashing.
