Japanese Muromachi Katana Sword Kiyomitsu NBTHK Hozon - Exceptional Japanese samurai katana from the Bizen school of the end of Muromachi period (1392-1596). Bizen Osafune Kiyomitsu is one of the best lines of blacksmiths from that famous school. The Muromachi period is part of the Sengoku Jidai or Warring state period (1467-1615). During this period of war, a huge quantity of blades were needed by the different regimes, which resulted in a very impressive production of quality blades. This particular blade is impeccable, well balanced in hand, the forged surface itame-hada is granular with a pale reflection and the Hamon has the Kiyomitsu’s characteristics. The koshirae is wonderful, the fuchi-kashira represents birds and has gold inserts. Menuki are brass dragons and the scabbard or saya is unique with inserts of precious stones. The sword is 39.5 inches with a 24.5 blade. The tsuba is very elegant with a nice sakura( cherry blossom). Tsuka or handle is in excellent condition, with a blue silk cord very tight.
