Antique Chinese Bronze Buddhist Temple Bell, Dragon and Scrolling Design - Antique Chinese Buddhist temple bell, made of cast bronze. These bells, known as zhong in Chinese or bonsho in Japanese, are traditional ceremonial instruments used in Buddhist rituals.  Dimensions: Measuring 11.5 inches H x 6 W.  Material and Design: Heavily cast, featuring a deep dome-form with a flared rim. The handle at the top is crafted in the shape of a dragon. Decorative Motifs: The exterior includes registers of raised designs, which include animal masks (such as taotie), lotus patterns, mystical creatures, or Chinese characters. Usage: Unlike Western bells, these are clapperless and are intended to be struck from the outside with a wooden mallet or beam.
