Japanese samurai Zunari helmet - Exceptional all iron Japanese Samurai Zunari type helmet, a rare Kawari kabuto with wakidate in the form of horns. Kawari, meaning strange or unusual in Japanese, these helmets were worn by samurai in the Warring States period to be recognized and to intimidate the enemy on a battlefield were meant to show wealth and power. There are two parts on a kabuto helmet: the hachi bowl itself (structural part that protects the top of the head) is long and elongated, and finishes with a split on the forehead. The shikoro, or lower part of the kabuto, flares out deeply to protect the neck and back of the samurai. Circa 1700. No stand included.
