Silver Spice Box – Eastern Europe, 18th Century - Spice box. [Eastern Europe (likely Galicia), 18th century]. Silver, pierced, cut and engraved (unmarked). Square base and shaft; main section shaped as a single-story tower with surrounding balcony, surmounted by a tall pointed spire topped with a long pole, a flag, and two spherical ornaments. Entire surface decorated with pierced vegetal patterns, characteristic of Eastern European (Galician) silversmithing. Spice compartment closed with a pointed-arch door on a hinge, containing a bell. Another (detached) bell located in the spire. Four small flags atop the spice compartment and an additional flag at the tip of the pole. Height: 29.5 cm, max width: 7 cm. Overall good condition. Minor breaks, bends, and old soldering repairs. Bell in spire detached.
