Large-Format Esther Scroll Sewn to Satin Backing, with Separate Sheet of Blessings – The Netherlands, 18th Century - Esther scroll, rolled on its original handle, with accompanying sheet of blessings. [The Netherlands, ca. 18th century]. Ink on parchment (Gevil); green satin fabric. Large-format Esther scroll, written on eight light brown gevil parchment sheets; 24 columns, 19 lines per column. Occasional tagin on designated letters. A high-quality scroll, with its first two sheets sewn to green satin fabric. Rolled on the original decorative wooden handle. Accompanied by a separate sheet of blessings, containing the blessings recited before and after the reading of the megillah. At the end of the blessings appears the scribe’s signature: “MiYad Yitzchak Sofer”. Parchment height: 32.5 cm. Overall good condition. Some seams between sheets partially unraveled; tears and wear to edges of first satin sheet; one fabric strap lacking. Handle height: 53 cm. Some breaks and losses. Blessings sheet: 32X21 cm. Good condition.
