Esther Scroll with Decorative Serifs – Europe, Ca. 19th Century - Esther scroll, in leather case. [Europe, ca. 19th century]. Ink on parchment. Large format. Placed in leather-coated cardboard case. 11 columns (over 3 sheets). 42 lines per sheet. Esther scroll in neat Stam script [Ashkenazic Beit Yosef script], with fine, large decorative serifs (Tagim) at tops of columns and at the ten sons of Haman. Written in HaMelekh format (most columns begin with the word HaMelekh). Placed in a cardboard case covered in leather, with embossed gilt inscription, presumably the name of the scroll's owner. Height of parchment: 47 cm. Good-fair condition. Creases and wear. Fading of ink. Old leather-coated cardboard case, with tears and cracks.
