Hand-Colored Map of Jerusalem – Thomas Fuller – London, 1650 - Ierusalem qualis (ut plurimum) extitit aetate Solomonis – Hand-colored engraved map. [London: John Williams, 1650]. Imaginary bird’s-eye view of Jerusalem, depicting the city as it ostensibly appeared in the days of King Solomon. Oriented to the north, with the Temple at center, featuring a symbolic entrance through the Golden Gate. Outside the city walls, the hill of Calvary (Golgotha) is shown. At the right of the map appears the author’s dedication: Thomas Fuller’s tribute to Edward Montagu (1616-1684), son of the Baron, who had sheltered Fuller during illness and supported the education of his son. The map was issued with Thomas Fuller's ”A Pisgah-Sight of Palestine and the confines thereof” (London, 1650; following p. 308). Engraved map: 34X39.5 cm (printed on two joined sheets; verso blank). Good condition. Minor tears and blemishes to margins. Laor 1024.
