Temple in Jerusalem – Large and Fine Collection of Prints – 15th-19th Centuries
Collection comprising some 45 prints (engravings, woodcuts, etchings, and lithographs) depicting the Tabernacle and the Temples in Jerusalem, extracted from various scholarly and travel works. Some prints hand-colored. [Europe, ca. 15th-19th centuries].
Including:
• Templum Salomonis / Hierosolima, two incunabula leaves from the "Nuremberg Chronicle" by Hartmann Schedel. [Nuremberg: Anton Koberger, 1493]. German edition. Woodcuts by Michael Wohlgemut. Second leaf (Hierosolima) trimmed without the text.
• The Temple as it was in Christe time. Hand-colored engraving by John Goddard, from Thomas Fuller's A Pisgah-sight of Palestine. [London: John Williams press, 1650].
• Judas Machabeus hersteld den Tempel met den Brand-Altaar, die Antiochus Epiphanes ontheiligd hadde. Engraving by Willem Swidde, depicting the rededication of the Temple by Judas Maccabeus. [France or Holland, late 17th century].
