David Ben-Gurion – Signature on a Condolence Letter on Parchment, 1948
Condolence Letter on parchment, signed by David Ben-Gurion (in pen). With original envelope (Stamped on the envelope: "State of Israel, Ministry of Defense, Provisional Government").
The letter states that Yehudah Gelfner was killed in the line of duty in Nizanim on 8.6.48. Yehudah was the only son of Shoshana (Rosa) and Shlomo who made Aliya from Buenos Aires. Yehudah joined the "Haganah" and did not take advantage of the privilege as an only child to be exempt from serving in combat zones and was sent to the Negev. When his mother heard that he was killed she committed suicide out of despair and grief.
17 cm, good condition, tear on the envelope.
