Itamar Ben-Avi (1882-1943), journalist and Zionist activist, son of the reviver of the Hebrew language Eliezer Ben-Yehudah. His parents taught him Hebrew when only a minority spoke or understood the language. Ben-Avi studied in the Alliance Teachers Seminary in Paris and in Berlin University. When he returned to Eretz Israel in 1904, he took part in the edition of his father's papers "HaZvi" and "HaOr", He continued his father's initiatives, both in the area of journalism and the development of the Hebrew language.
Ben-Avi supported the international language Esperanto. Ben-Avi called for replacing the Assyrian Alphabet by the Latin one trying to facilitate the turning of Hebrew into a "Jewish Esperanto". Twice he tried to publish Hebrew weekly magazines in Latin characters – "HaShavua HaPalestini" and "Dror" which did not last long. Lot of 9 issues + two single leaves, 30 cm. General condition is good. Stains, folding marks, tears to edges of some issues. Contained in a nice box.
