Small-Format Decorated Esther Scroll – Italy, 19th Century - Decorated Esther scroll. [Italy, 19th century]. Ink and paint on parchment. Small format Esther scroll, written on 7 sheets of thin parchment sewn together, 66 columns of text (+ column of blessings over the Megillah reading at beginning + 6 additional columns at the end, containing the final blessings as well as the piyut ”Korei Megillah”), 10 lines per column. All columns of text enclosed in slender decorative rectangular frames painted yellow. A matching but undecorated sheet of blessings accompanies the scroll. Wound around original handle surmounted by original crown-like ornament. Height of parchment sheets: 7 cm. Good condition. Few creases and stains. Sheet of blessings: 23X6.5 cm. Good condition. Height of handle: 18.5 cm. Good condition.
