Esther Scroll in Filigree Silver Case – Europe, Ca. 19th or Early 20th Century - Esther scroll in filigree silver case. Probably Europe, ca. 19th or early 20th century. Ink on parchment; filigree silver (unmarked); partial gilding. Esther scroll, in Sephardic script. Written on 8 parchment membranes sewn together, 27 text columns, 16 lines per column. Housed in decorated filigree silver case decorated with vegetal patterns. Crown-like ornament at top of case, covering a gilt dome. Case and handle decorated with appliqué in minute Star of David patterns and other decorations. Pull bar sewn to first membrane. Short roller handle decorated with filigree. Several holes and ink erosion. Height of case (including handle): 25 cm. Minor warping to case, crown and roller handle. Crown, dome and roller handle somewhat loose.
